IAB Pops Pop-Ups

Thursday July 24, 2003
Yes, they're annoying. We've all been attacked by the renegade pop-up. That pop-up ad that just won't seem to go away. Or worse, you try to close it and you're attacked by a barrage of even more pop-ups.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) says enough is enough. UK online media owners will be asked to cap the number of intrusive pop-ups. The IAB is actually based in New York but the U.S. isn't facing the same guidelines yet. Sources say the sites that have a pop-up problem are really out of hand. And since excessive pop-ups can taint a user's experience, most sites that bombard visitors pop-ups won't stay in business very long.
