Tip of the Week: Realistic Goals

Thursday December 18, 2003
One of the most common misconceptions in the advertising industry is that anyone can write an effective ad or come up with a powerful advertising campaign. For this reason, many newcomers to the field are discouraged when they find they can't get a job at a major ad agency, even though they are filled with creative ideas.

Keep the dream of working for a big agency alive but do remember that advertising is just like any other field. You have to pay your dues and gain experience. This takes time but you'll find working in a smaller agency or even an in-house agency has its rewards and gives you the opportunity to earn that invaluable experience you can use when you do end up creating those national ad campaigns.
