Bush Asks McCain to Help the Fight Against Political Ads
Thursday August 26, 2004
President Bush says he wants to join Republican Senator John McCain in the fight against political ads by outside groups. The announcement comes just weeks after McCain called for Bush to condemn an anti-John Kerry ad that questioned Kerry's service in Vietnam.
Bush appeared on Larry King Live about a week after McCain made his original request for the president to condemn the Swift Boat Veterans ad. He didn't outright condemn the ad as McCain requested at that time but now says he wants to take court action or pursue legislative solutions to stop outside groups from political advertising.
