The NRA Takes Aim at John Kerry in a New Ad
Thursday September 9, 2004
The National Rifle Association is planning a $400,000-a-week anti-John Kerry ad campaign. The NRA says Kerry has acted as if he approves of hunting and other gun sports but that his 20-year voting record in the Senate proves otherwise.
The ad is really a half-hour infomercial slated to run in key states, including Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin. Financing came from the NRA's political action committee contributions, which is the only legal way to run the ad so close to Election Day. You may recall the controversy around Michael Moore advertising Fahrenheit 9/11 after July 30.
A spokesperson for Kerry's campaign says the NRA leaders are "tools of the Republican part and out of touch with their members." She also says that, "it's no surprise they're doing George Bush's dirty work."
