Ashlee Simpson's People Go Into Damage Control Mode

Tuesday October 26, 2004
Singer Ashlee Simpson is feeling the brunt of her Saturday Night Live fiasco. Visitors have flooded her site and bashed Simpson on her official Web site's forum, the media continues to write articles and industry pros are speaking out about the use of vocal tracks during performances.

Simpson attempted some damage control of her own at the end of SNL by blaming her band for playing the wrong song. Now her reps are entering into the mix trying to tone things down for the singer.

Joe Simpson, father and manager of both Jessica and Ashlee, cited Ashlee's bout with acid reflux as the reason she was using taped vocals. Her producer says she's sick but honored her commitment to perform on SNL and added that she's never needed a vocal track before.

Ashlee performed live on the Radio Music Awards Monday night. The webmasters of her site have also removed her forums (at least temporarily) and replaced them with a message from Ashlee also citing her acid reflux as the reason she used vocal tracks on SNL.

Simpson's second performance of the night ended before it started with a voice track of Pieces of Me playing while the singer stood there with her microphone by her side. The song that began playing was actually the song she had already sung earlier in the show. After attempting her version of a hoedown, she walked off the stage.
