Tip of the Week: Watch Your Mouth or You Might Not Get the Promotion
Friday November 26, 2004
What holds a qualified woman back from getting a promotion? A new survey says when women try to fit in with the boys at work by using guy talk vocabulary, they're more likely to be looked down on by the big bosses and overlooked for promotions.
Anyone who's worked in advertising knows it's not exactly a straight-laced environment. With as much time as you spend with your co-workers cranking out new projects and meeting deadlines, you're more likely to slip into that everyone-here-is-my-buddy comfort zone.
Personally, I worked at one agency where the boss broke out beer at 5 p.m. for everyone who had to work late. Not exactly your suit and tie type of workplace most of us are used to. Just be sure you're on your best, professional behavior now or it could affect you later.
