Ask Jeeves Adds Advertising Network
Monday August 1, 2005
Fueled by the success of Yahoo and Google's ad programs, Ask Jeeves is launching its own advertising network. The new program will use the Ask Jeeves search engine and is scheduled to make its debut today.
This is the first major repositioning move since InterActive Corp bought the company. CEO Barry Diller, who helped launch Fox almost 20 years ago, had already hinted Ask Jeeves would be undergoing a major transformation to help get some of the money back that Google's advertising program takes away from IAC's entities like Match.com, LendingTree.com and Expedia.com.
Ask Jeeves says its advertising program will be successful because it appeals to a different audience than Google or Yahoo does. Industry experts say the ad program is nothing new to the dot com world and that "it's a copycat service."
