Abortion Rights Group Pulls Anti-Roberts Ad
Friday August 12, 2005
Abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America is pulling its ad against Supreme Court nominee John Roberts after a week of controversy. The group's president, Nancy Keenan, says they regret that people have misconstrued the focus of the ads.
Senator Arlen Specter called the commercial "blatantly untrue" because it equates Roberts with some of the most violent anti-abortion activists. Specter, an abortion-rights supporter himself, wrote a letter to NARAL's president asking the group to pull the ad.
The commercial aired in Maine, Rhode Island and on CNN. NARAL will replace the ad with one that examines Roberts's record.
