Images of Hurricane Katrina Victims Won't Be Used in Anti-Roberts Ads

Thursday September 8, 2005
MoveOn.org says it won't be using images of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina in an attempt to stop federal Judge John Roberts from being confirmed as chief justice. The advocacy director of the group told USA Today the ad would feature African American evacuees from New Orleans to show there is a poverty problem, especially among minorities in the U.S.

The group later denied it had ever planned such an ad and wouldn't be using any images of hurricane victims in its ad campaign. Conservative groups say any ad using hurricane evacuees for political purposes is just exploiting a national disaster for personal gain.
