Town Becomes DISH in New Advertising Deal

Thursday November 17, 2005
Don't send your mail to Clark, Texas, anymore. The town has voted for a name change to DISH. The deal gives the town 10 years of free satellite television but the name change is permanent. The city's mayor approached EchoStar Communications Corp., of the DISH Network, to select the small town of 125 for the renaming.

Companies say the corporate renaming of cities is a much better deal than spending money on advertising. Companies get the publicity and the towns get improvements like new computer labs or even cash.

In 2000, Halfway, Oregon, became Half.com for a year. Santa, Idaho, residents are considering a name change to Secretsanta.com, Idaho.
