Visa and McDonald's Sit Out Super Bowl XL

Monday January 9, 2006
Visa and McDonald's are on the bench for Super Bowl XL. The two advertisers are looking to get more bang for their buck by advertising during the 2006 Winter Olympics, which start just five days after the Super Bowl.

Companies who advertise during the Olympics get a better deal on ad rates. Commercials can be spread out over the two week run of the Olympics and with rates about $700,000 per commercial, more spots can be purchased. Ad rates for Super Bowl XL are about $2.4 million per :30 commercial.

McDonald's is also coming off of a bad Super Bowl commercial review from 2005's Super Bowl XXXIX. The Lincoln Fry set of commercials fumbled with consumers and didn't go over well with industry pros either.
