Super Bowl Advertisers Break Record With HD Ads

Wednesday February 1, 2006
The Super Bowl's been airing in high-definition since 2000 but Super Bowl XL has advertisers breaking a record. More than half of the commercials will be shot for high-definition TV.

Anheuser-Busch will air about five minutes worth of commercials in HD for the first time. FedEx is also making its high-def debut. Ameriquest Mortgage began its venture into HD last year and will continue the streak with two HD commercials in Super Bowl XL. More on Super Bowl XL's HD commercials:

Advertisers are spending about $2.4 million for a 30-second slot in this year's Super Bowl. Shooting in high-definition and sending the spot to post-production to fix any flaws drives the cost of a high-definition ad up about 15-percent.
