Super Bowl Advertisers Break Record With HD Ads
Wednesday February 1, 2006
The Super Bowl's been airing in high-definition since 2000 but Super Bowl XL has advertisers breaking a record. More than half of the commercials will be shot for high-definition TV.
Anheuser-Busch will air about five minutes worth of commercials in HD for the first time. FedEx is also making its high-def debut. Ameriquest Mortgage began its venture into HD last year and will continue the streak with two HD commercials in Super Bowl XL.
Advertisers are spending about $2.4 million for a 30-second slot in this year's Super Bowl. Shooting in high-definition and sending the spot to post-production to fix any flaws drives the cost of a high-definition ad up about 15-percent.
