Curious George Crosses Into Product Placement

Tuesday February 14, 2006
The new movie Curious George is creating a buzz in the ad world over the use of product placements in the animated flick. Curious George can be seen eating Dole bananas. The man with the yellow hat drives a Volkswagen based on a Touareg concept vehicle. The U.S. Postal Service even gets a shot delivering the mail.

Curious George becomes one of the first full-length movies to feature product placement. With the two to three years it takes for an animated movie to be released, many advertisers are nervous about committing because their products and marketing strategy may change by the time the movie comes out. More on Curious George's Product Placement:

Dole is also rolling out Curious George promotions. Stickers on 100 million Dole bananas help promote the movie. Dole is also holding a Curious George sweepstakes to send one family on vacation.

The U.S. Postal Service hasn't partnered with the movie but will offer a Curious George commemorative stamp. The stamp will be part of the "Favorite Children's Book Animals" collection.
