Virginia Man Becomes New Maytag Man

Wednesday April 4, 2007
Clay Jackson, of Richmond, Virginia, has been selected out of 1,500 people to become the new Maytag man. Maytag held a national search for the advertising icon who fronts the brand. The lonely Maytag repairman has only been played by three actors since the character's creation in 1967. The contract of Hardy Rawls, the most recent actor to portray him, is not being renewed.

Maytag issued a press release saying Jackson will help "revitalize the Maytag brand and its heritage." The Maytag man is getting a makeover with a new uniform and, according to the company's press release, "a new attitude and is an evolution of the dependable character."

Met him yesterday at the Today Show, Lend A Hand series in Rupert, Idaho. He makes a perfect Maytag Man! The Idaho Youth Ranch was proud to be the recipient of the generous gifts given them by Magtag. Thank you!
