Fans Marketing Campaign Saves Jericho

Friday June 8, 2007
Fans went nuts when CBS canceled Jericho, a show about a small town dealing with chaos after nuclear bombs hit several major cities. Buzz swept across the Internet immediately in message boards, blogs, instant messages and Emails to friends about the outrage of losing Jericho, especially after a season-ending cliffhanger hinged on the word, "Nuts." Fans began a marketing campaign to save the show that resulted in over 20 tons of peanuts being sent to CBS and the network ordering seven more episodes. The campaign's complete with a Web site, press releases and even an ad in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

More on the Jericho Fan Campaign:

A message from CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler started with the word "Wow!" to announce the network had decided to bring back the show for seven more episodes. The letter then warned fans they would have to spread the word even more to get the show to remain on the air. The letter heartily ended with:

"P.S. Please stop sending us nuts :)"

This isn't the first time fans have launched a campaign to save their favorite show. Roswell fans sent the WB bottles of Tabasco, the favorite treat of the aliens. Arrested Development fans sent FOX bananas when that show was canceled since the Bluths ran a banana stand. Both of those campaigns were successful as well.
