Chrysler Advertises Minivan Through Nickelodeon

Tuesday July 3, 2007
The 2008 Town and Country minivan will be front and center this summer as Nickelodeon's "Slime Across America" tour kicks off July 7. Chrysler has signed a multimillion-dollar deal to be the sole automotive sponsor of the tour. On-air advertising will begin October 1 with Chrysler commercials starring Nickelodeon character Jimmy Neutron. The customized ads will feature the boy genius inventor touting the Sirius Backseat TV amenity in the Town & Country.

GM put Hummers in Happy Meals. Jimmy Neutron is pitching a minivan with the kid-friendly Sirius Backseat TV. Is advertising to families through their children going too far? What do you think?

More on Chrysler and Nickelodeon:

Nickelodeon will also benefit from the deal. The Viacom-owned channel's Nick Hotels will be promoted on Chrysler.com

Fortunately, my kids are smart enough to know we’re not going to buy a van just because Jimmy Neutron says to but I am tired of these companies trying to sell their stuff to me through my children. It’s bad enough that children have to be subjected to so much advertising directed at them but to make them feel like they have to have something like McDonald’s and those Hummers in the Happy Meals is beyond ridiculous!
