Friday July 6, 2007
Lois Wyse has passed away after a long battle with stomach cancer. She was 80 years old.
Wyse co-founded Cleveland's Wyse Advertising in 1951 with her first husband. She later opened the New York office of Wyse Advertising in 1966.
More on Wyse's Advertising Career:
As the agency's Creative Director, she helped launch a small Ohio jelly company into a household name by creating the slogan, "With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good." The advertising pioneer also suggested an unknown chain of stores change its name to Bed, Bath & Beyond. She worked on a variety of ad campaigns, including American Express and Revlon.
Wyse began her career as a reporter for The Cleveland News and The Cleveland Press when she was a teenager and became a columnist at the age of 17. By the time she was 18, she had already written for Life magazine and went on to write for Vogue, Cosmopolitan and penned a Good Housekeeping column for 13 years.
