Applebee's Switches Agencies, Gets Bought

Applebee's is taking its business from DraftFCB to Interpublic Group's McCann Erickson after the restaurant chain put its $175 million account in review. In the meantime, IHOP Corp. has announced it will buy Applebee's for about $1.9 million in cash.

The agency change is already a plus for McCann Erickson, who lost the $300 million Wendy's account in January. The agency has since won Verizon's $1.9 billion advertising and media consolidation account and the Weight Watchers $65 million account.
Omnicom Group's TWBA/Chiat/Day was also in the running for the Applebee's account. DraftFCB did not try to keep the account.
