McDonald's Rap on YouTube Catches Agency's Attention

Friday July 27, 2007
A YouTube video showing two guys rapping about McDonald's Chicken McNuggets made its way to the fast food chain's ad agency, Arnold Worldwide. Now the spoof is a commercial airing on New York TV stations. Fernando Sosa and Matt Malinsky created the video as a joke for their friends and family a year and a half ago. When an anonymous Email about the video reached Arnold Art Director Chris Edwards' inbox, he tracked Sosa down. Edwards just happened to be working on a campaign to promote McDonald's 10 Extra Value Meals to the younger demographic in New York.

The video has more than 155,000 views, over 400 comments and rates four stars on YouTube as of this writing. Viral videos are showing both advertisers and agencies that sometimes even a well-executed, million-dollar campaign can't do everything a little Internet buzz can.
