Samsung Wants Consumers to Promote Camcorder

Monday January 7, 2008
Consumer-generated ads aren't dead yet. Samsung and Brickfish have teamed for a contest that asks consumers to sing Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger's song "Baby Love." The contest has an interesting twist. There's your typical grand prize, first prize and second prize. But there's also a "most viral" prize. The contest details state, "The entry that gets the most attention across the internet will win $500 cash or scholarship."

More on Samsung's Contest:

It's a smart move for Samsung to ask consumers to spread their videos across the Internet. However, some of them never should've even been made. Asking people to actually sing a song and attaching your company name to it is either a gutsy business move or it's just plain stupid. Even a spin on Chevy's contest flop would've benefited Samsung more with actual shots of the camcorder the company wants to promote.

You have to hand it to the creative "singers," though. They manage to get the Samsung logo in some of their videos.
