Buy a medium or large drink during breakfast hours February 28 and 29 and McDonald's will throw in a free McSkillet during the national promotion. The breakfast burrito retails for about $2.49 but McDonald's wants consumers to sample the product that debuted in November 2007. McDonald's will hand out about 2 million McSkillets. Ad pros say this is a good move for the fast food chain but it does carry some risks. A customer who was coming in to buy a higher priced item menu may opt for the free food instead. But the upside is that experts predict many consumers will come in and purchase more food in addition to the medium or large drink that will get them the free McSkillet.

More on the McDonald's Giveaway:

A food item that costs $2.49 like the McSkillet's menu price generally carries a company cost of 75 cents. Beverages, on the other hand, carry a higher profit margin.

The promo follows McDonald's success with the Free Coffee Mondays campaign. A large coffee will run you about $1.33.
