Ad Rules Tightened for the Oscars
Monday February 28, 2005
ABC and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences continued to tighten the belt on advertisers during this year's Oscars. The ban on pharmaceutical and hygiene ads that's been in effect since 1976 remained in tact but some advertisers also felt the pinch of both ABC and the Academy.
ABC required some advertisers to change their ads but won't say which ones. Any kind of commercial featuring a presenter or nominee is automatically banned and so are commercials deemed in poor taste.
