Kwan's Effect on Endorsers
Wednesday February 15, 2006
When Michelle Kwan dropped out of the Olympics, her endorsers were left with big decisions. Commercials airing during the Olympics on NBC featured the figure skater and advertisers were left with the decision to replace them or leave them as is.
Coca-Cola pulled one of its commercials starring Kwan. In the ad, guys root for her while watching her skate. Another Coca-Cola ad that mentions her will remain, though. Visa has made the decision to air all of its ads featuring Kwan as planned.
Visa, Coca-Cola and AT&T are just some of her endorsement deals. Kwan earns about $1 million each year in endorsements and even after withdrawing from the Olympics, her agent tells USA Today that another big marketing deal could be on the way.
