CBS to Launch Katie Couric Ad Campaign

Tuesday July 18, 2006
CBS is planning a major ad campaign to promote Katie Couric's September 5 evening news debut. The network will begin airing ads on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC. CBS is bypassing the usual restrictions that prevent rivals from buying ad time on each other's networks by going through cable operators instead of the networks themselves. Plans are also in the works to include all CBS outlets such as CBS outdoor and CBS radio in the ad campaign.

More on the Katie Couric Ad Campaign:

Couric will shoot 190 separate commercials to name each local CBS affiliate. The spots will run in that particular market's local newscast.

Other ad plans include Couric's face appearing on New York buses in September. An online push will debut after she begins anchoring the news.

She is also authoring a blog for CBS and CBSNews.com will also feature a daily video clip of Couric talking about the day's news. The network just announced the CBS Evening News will also be simulcast on CBS Radio News.
