NFL Says You'll Make the Best Super Commercial Ever

You know you've sat in front of the couch during the Super Bowl and wondered why advertisers paid millions for certain commercials to run during the big game. Now's your chance to get off the couch and get into the game yourself.
The NFL is calling all advertising fans to pitch their ideas for "the best NFL Super Bowl commercial ever." The winner may see the winning pitch turned into a commercial for Super Bowl XLI.

If the prize-winning pitch gets turned into a commercial, the winner is invited to the production set to see the finished ad. A VIP trip to Super Bowl XLI and NFL gifts are also included in the winner's package.
Fans can also get into the game online. They will have the chance to vote online to determine the winner. While voting, they get the chance to enter a sweepstakes that will take them to Super Bowl XLI in Florida.
This isn't the first call for a consumer generated Super Bowl XLI commercial. Chevrolet is making a major push to promote its Super Bowl College Ad Challenge. That contest is only open to college students.

As a resident of Canada, I feel that this contest should not only be open to us, but also a pitching location should be awarded to those of us north of the border. Canada consists of MANY NFL fans and football die-hards. It saddens me to think that the league uses our players but not our ideas.
What a joke! Are you kidding? The NFL is paying out with hats, jackets and mugs and a couple of tickets for creative ideas for the Super Bowl? As a creative ad person for 30+ years, it would be my best guess that $250K would be a good start on an ad campaign for the event without considering production cost!
Anyone who would be stupid enough to give you a good idea should be shot in his tracks for submitting anything! What a bunch of cheap skates…Get over yourselves…PLEASE!!!!
I was extremly excited when I first saw the televison commercial touting the National football League needed a commercial for it’s SUPER BOWL extravaganza. I had my idea laid out in my mind instantly. I have been waiting for such a grand opportunity to show my skills since I can’t land my dream job at an agency. This could be my big break I thought to myself. Atleast I could get in front of some professionals and practice my craft, I thought.
Then I researched the Internet for the rules and procedures to enter and how the contest would work. How disappointed. Couldn’t you have chosen a few other locations for presentations like California and where the SUper Bowl is going to be played “Florida”. Nice try team, but you lose.
I agree with Todd and Drew. I am a Art Director and have worked on many campaigns. Typically a 30 second spot takes countless hours to develop from concept from production and the “idea” people are paid very well. The NFL’s idea of a Grand Prize is a joke, the “prize” doesnt even include meals!!!
I agree with Todd, do not give up your ideas for virtually nothing, and the NFL makes out like a bandit for a good idea they get for free. I think the fee for most agencies would be closer to 500k pre-production for a commercial of this calibur. Also, could they make the locations at every NFL stadium?? They expect you to travel for a 90 second pitch you probably wont win, and they get it for nothing if you do? I have to say I was interested in this until I read about it. Now I think they are just trying to exploit a good fan base. Shame on the NFL!
I agree with all of you. However, I did make the trip to Dallas from Boston and gave away for basically nothing what I think is a good idea. Good think that I have a tie to the Dallas Stars and took in a hockey game or it would have been a lot less appealing.
I agree that the prize is light, but it was fun to go and do…..
