AT&T Wins Battle Against NASCAR

Friday May 18, 2007
AT&T will be allowed to put its logo on Jeff Burton's car, a move that NASCAR tried to block because of the circuit's deal with Nextel. The Nextel Cup deal grandfathered the Alltel and Cingular cars in as competitors. However, NASCAR claimed the BellSouth and AT&T merger prevented AT&T from changing the orange color scheme and replacing the Cingular logo with the AT&T logo on Burton's number 31 car. Judge Marvin H. Shoob issued a preliminary injunction to give AT&T the right to change the car. That allows AT&T to change the paint scheme and logo for Saturday's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway
