Why does the Direct Marketing Association oppose the Do-Not-Email Bill?

From Apryl Duncan, for About.com

Question: Why does the Direct Marketing Association oppose the Do-Not-Email Bill?
Answer: The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) feels the Do-Not-Email Bill will not reduce the amount of spam you receive but will affect legitimate marketers who send bulk Email.

The DMA says most spammers are not adhering to the rules anyway and will only laugh at such a bill if it passes. However, the DMA adds that those legitimate marketers who rely on Email to send out their commercial messages will be punished for something they haven't done wrong.
