Playing Your Cards Right

Generate sales leads. Get new customers. Sell your products. Distribute samples.

These are just a few of the ways you can raise awareness of your company and its products.

Card pack advertising is designed to give your company maximum exposure with minimal cost.

Your optimum goal with card packs depends on your company's obectives. Whether you're in the business-to-business field or looking to gain customers, there are a few rules you'll want to follow to get the most out of your card pack advertising.

1. Reach your target market. When you're reviewing a card pack distributor, make sure your card is going to fit in with the type of packs they offer.

The card pack publisher should be able to supply you with their deck media kit and a sample card pack. Find out if they can furnish demographic information as well.

If you're selling hearing aids and their card packs are disbursed to twenty-somethings, then that's not the card pack publisher for you.

2. Get references. Once they've supplied you with their sample card pack, you can see first-hand how other advertisers fared with that particular card pack publisher. Contact these companies and ask about their response rate.

Some card pack publishers also collect data on each card pack sent. You can ask them if they surveyed the number of inquiries received as well as the number of orders taken.

3. Once you've mailed your card pack and you start generating sales leads, be sure to follow up these leads with a simple telephone call. If your leads don't result in a sale, you can change your future mailings to reel them in.

4. Speaking of following up, you'll want to pursue your leads promptly. If you're trying to get people to order your catalog, make sure you have enough in stock to send out immediately. You can also have a brochure or a standard "Thank you for your inquiry" letter to mail out as well.
