SPECIAL DISCOUNTS
Offer special discounts when you can. Even $50 off or 10% can go a long way in a customer's mind. And when you do offer a discount, tell everybody. Put it on your Web site and in all of your promotional materials.

DIRECT MAIL
Direct mail is an excellent way to reach your target market and is extremely cost-effective. You can purchase address lists for college students who have expressed interest in travel among other things.

Then, send out a simple package with a sales letter, refer people to your Web site and offer a special discount as part of the deal. Put a time limit on the deal so they know they only have a specific date range to take advantage of the offer.

PARTNERING
Say you're targeting college students in your area. You can approach local shops and restaurants to partner with you.

Basically, the shop would carry a flier (or some other promotional material) with all of your information on it, including your Web site and other contact details. In turn, you may offer a $25 gift certificate from that shop if they buy a travel package from you. The gift certificate would be a cost that the shop would take, not you.

This can even work for businesses outside your own area. You can contact these businesses in any state. Sell them on your company. Tell them what you can do for them.

You can also use partnering in a different way. The shop can display some sort of promotional material that says, "Mention Jane's Hobby Shop and receive $50 off your next travel package." In turn, the shop could offer 10% off their own products if that person buys your travel package.

You can make up promotional codes so when someone is ordering, you'll know what they receive. For instance, you could tell people to use special offer code 1234 when ordering. That way, when you receive the order, you'll know that's the code for the deal you have with Jane's Hobby Shop.

You could also send a little card that says "This certificate entitles you to 10% off Jane's Hobby Shop products." It's an extra way to sell the partnering idea.
