Advertising Agency Account Executives bear a huge responsibility and juggle many projects at a time, all while communicating clearly with the client and the agency's creative team. Flowers & Partners, Inc. AE Trey Sullivan works with big name clients every day and shares his knowledge in this industry profile.

What are some of your duties as an Account Executive?

  • Manage the account on a day-to-day basis

  • Develop an understanding and knowledge of the Client’s business in order to develop communications strategies and proactively search for business opportunities for the Client

  • Contribute to the development of a Client’s short- and long-term strategic plans

  • Ensure that budgets are being expended accurately and within approved parameters

  • Interact internally with other departments to ensure the messages, brand and work quality is consistent

  • Communicate with the Client on a consistent and thorough basis to keep the Client apprised of all activity and its progress

How involved does an AE get with each project?

The AE is responsible for initiating Client projects, providing strategic and tactical guidance to other departments, communicating with the Client throughout the project and ensuring the project is completed on time and on budget.

Take us through a typical day in your role as an AE.

  1. Arrive at the office early and plan for the day ahead

  2. Check the status of each job in the creative department to ensure that it has the necessary information and that the jobs will be complete on time

  3. Touch base with each Client at least once during the day to discuss current and upcoming projects

  4. Initiate jobs and write related strategies

  5. Review and present concepts/layouts/copy to the Client for approval

  6. Communicate Client feedback to the creative department and discuss next steps
