Best Commercials of Super Bowl XL

By Apryl Duncan, About.com

Some Super Bowl XL commercials made you laugh. But did they hit the mark? After all, Super Bowl advertisers need you to complete the sale to make their advertising efforts pay off.

These commercials scored a touchdown during Super Bowl XL:

Budweiser, Clydesdale American Dream - In-Game Reaction
Anheuser-Busch bought a whopping eight commercials in Super Bowl XL. This ad should've had higher placement than its third quarter spot. Clydesdale American Dream tugged at the heart by showing a young Clydesdale colt unknowingly getting a little help from other horses as he pretended to be one of the Budweiser Clydesdales. Guys smiled. Women everywhere said, "Awwww." You don't have to be a beer drinker to love this commercial.

Ameriquest Mortgage, Friendly Skies - In-Game Reaction
Ameriquest made two appearances in Super Bowl XL and continued its "Don't judge too quickly" campaign. A woman trying to get to the bathroom on a plane ends up straddling a man when turbulence hits. This ad was sexy in the most embarrassing way for the actors in it. Ameriquest always does a good job of coming up with a twist in each new ad and uses its campaign theme in the most creative way.

Bud Light, Secret Fridge - In-Game Reaction
A guy thinks he's hiding his Bud Light from his friends but, in reality, is really sending the beers through to his neighbor's friends. This commercial definitely topped the Bud Light ads for the night. Great placement, airing in the first quarter. Funny and memorable. This is the ad everyone's talking about at the water cooler today.

Budweiser, The Wave - In-Game Reaction
Great use of a classic: the wave. A stadium crowd uses the wave to make a glass and a beer. The beer goes into a glass and then is gulped down to the bottom. One of those, "How did they do that?" ads that not only kept you watching but made sure you knew what product you were watching.

Ford Escape Hybrid - In-Game Reaction
There's something about Kermit the Frog that should make every advertiser want to pick him up as a celebrity spokespuppet. As Kermit sings and even shows why "It's Not Easy Being Green," he discovers a Ford Escape Hybrid in the forest. As he rounds the corner and sees the word "Hybrid," he says, "I guess it is easy being green." The commercial launched the Escape Hybrid's full ad campaign and did it in a big way. Shows it's environmentally friendly without being a lecture. A far contrast to Toyota's Hybrid Camry spot, which made the list of Worst Commercials of Super Bowl XL.
