Super Bowl XLI Sideline Wrap Up: Fourth Quarter

By Apryl Duncan, About.com

Fourth Quarter, First Commercial Break

Brand: Budweiser
Company: Anheuser-Busch
Description: Crabs Steal Budweiser
Agency: DDB
This is a standout commercial and will be the one viewers talk about well after the game.

Brand: Prudential Financial
Company: Prudential Financial
Description: Let Prudential Be Your Rock
Agency: DDB
Reminiscent of Super Bowl XL's commercial for Fidelity Investments. Only, that commercial was more memorable and at least featured Paul McCartney video clips.

Brand: CR-V
Company: Honda
Description: CR-V is a Hunka Hunka Car
Agency: RPA
Another ad that's not a debut in the Super Bowl. Does do something that Chevy didn't do very well in this year's commercial: Honda makes the car the star and you've got to love that Elvis song. At least they didn't get a cover of the song and spent the money on the real thing. However, Honda's money would've been spent better elsewhere.

Fourth Quarter, Second Commercial Break

Brand: HP
Company: HP
Description: The Computer is Personal Again
Agency: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners
This commercial ended up being a surprise. HP's "The Computer is Personal Again" campaign has a lot of flash and this one uses that approach but also appeals to those rugged tough guys by using "Orange County Choppers" star Paul Teutel, Sr., as the voiceover.

Brand: Izod
Company: Phillips-Van Heusen
Description: PerformX Line of Clothes
Agency: In-House, produced by HomeNYC
Just music. No voiceover or long copy for the viewer to read. This ad relied on its visuals to sell the PerformX line and there was something delightfully unusual about it. It won't win any awards as a fan favorite and it would've been better placed in another program but Phillips-Van Heusen can get some good exposure for the Izod brand if they continue to use this commercial. "Amazing Race" winner Tyler Denk starred in this ad.

Brand: Budweiser Select
Company: Anheuser-Busch
Description: Jay-Z and Don Shula Play Football Board Game
Agency: Cannonball
Show of hands. Who doesn't want the 3D board game these two were playing? Very cool concept and well-executed.

Fourth Quarter, Third Commercial Break

Brand: Flomax
Company: Boehringer Ingelheim
Description: You Don't Have to Go to the Bathroom So Much
Agency: Grey
These types of commercials give viewers the willies, especially men watching the game with their buddies.

Brand: e-Trade
Company: e-Trade
Description: One Finger
Agency: BBDO
This was e-Trade's winner of the night. Held your interest to the end, made you laugh and scored better than the "Bank Robbery" spot.
