FOX Pulls Second Airing of GoDaddy.com Ad
Monday February 7, 2005
FOX pulled its second airing of a GoDaddy.com commercial after the NFL voiced its outrage during the Super Bowl. The ad played on the "wardrobe malfunction" of last year's Super Bowl in a mock congressional hearing about censorship.
The ad aired during the first quarter and was scheduled to air again in the fourth quarter. But after the NFL saw the ad, FOX decided the ad was inappropriate after all and didn't air the ad a second time.
Meanwhile, Intelliseek monitored 40 blogs during the Super Bowl to rate public reaction to Super Bowl ads. The GoDaddy.com ads didn't fare well with those bloggers and many wrote about how surprised they were that it made it on the air the first time.
GoDaddy.com had their first choice for a second commercial banned by FOX before the Super Bowl. Critics say the buzz the domain name registrar is getting is high but they doubt the buzz will actually do anything for the company in the long run.
