Don't Mess with Miller
Wednesday February 22, 2006
Miller Brewing wants you to receive its Emails no matter what. According to BoingBoing.net, a contest-goer used a phoney Email address to enter a Miller contest so she wouldn't have to receive further marketing messages from the company.
Miller tracked the user down, though, and sent a letter to her real Email address. Highlights of the letter include, "We have performed an electronic change of address to update our records so that we can continue to send you special offers, promotions and announcements via email."
The trackdown Email has sparked a frenzy of blog posts in the ad industry. Is Miller hunting down its customers to send them marketing messages a great way to keep them as customers? Most people say it's definitely a respectful route for the marketer to take and the trail of blog posts suggest Miller needs to take a second look at how it's approaching customers.
