Group Wants Federline Super Bowl Ad Pulled

Wednesday January 24, 2007
The National Restaurant Association wants Nationwide Insurance to pull its 30-second Super Bowl commercial featuring Britney Spears' estranged husband Kevin Federline. In the ad, Federline goes from dreaming he's a rap star to realizing he's flipping burgers. The group wanting the ad to be pulled says it's a slap in the face to the employees of 935,000 restaurants in the U.S. The National Restaurant Association issued a press release saying, "We hope that Nationwide would not air an ad that would imply that working in a restaurant is demeaning and unpleasant. Such an ad would insult the 12.8 million Americans who work in the restaurant industry."

More on the Nationwide Commercial:

Eric Hardgrove, a spokesperson for Nationwide, defends the ad. He told Reuters the commercial's goal is to prepare people for how quickly life can change and not to "offend or insult the many fine individuals who work in the restaurant industry."

Nationwide Insurance is making its second appearance in the Super Bowl with the Life Comes at You Fast campaign. Fabio starred in the company's commercial that debuted during Super Bowl XL.
