VW Pulls Suicide Ad

Tuesday February 20, 2007
Volkswagen has yanked an ad featuring a man standing on the edge of a tall building contemplating jumping. When he hears VW has three cars under $17,000, he gets off the ledge. General Motors also came under fire after a Super Bowl XLI commercial where a robot ponders suicide after he's laid off from the assembly line. GM now says it will edit that ad and remove any references to suicide.

More on VW's Ad:

Suicide groups complained to VW, saying they're concerned about the message it sends. The ad aired about half a dozen times on cable networks but VW doesn't plan on editing it. The commercial will be pulled entirely from the airwaves.
