What should I do when I receive spam?

From Apryl Duncan, for About.com

Question: What should I do when I receive spam?
Answer: You do have options when you receive spam:

1. Delete it. You can also use Email filters to have spam deleted automatically.

2. Report it to the appropriate authorities. If the spam you receive promotes something illegal, a product that doesn't work or exist, stocks for purchase, etc. do a little research to find the appropriate authority. From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to the Internet Fraud Complaint Center, there are ways you can fight the spammers.

3. Join one of the organizations dedicated to making spam illegal. Two of those are CAUCE (Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email) and The SpamCon Foundation Law Center.
